Default Why no Toledo forum?

I sent the same question to this website a couple months back but got no response.

Our metro has 600,000+ people. 750k including Monroe county Michigan. Believe it or not, there are intelligent people here who own personal computers and who might like their own discussion board.

Dayton and Akron-Canton have boards before us. How about we come up with some new ways to get slighted? C'mon.

I'll agree with you. Toledo may not be a much-discussed place, but there are other cities of similar size in different states that have their own sub-forums.

Size does not matter. If it's not a much-discussed place, it'll never get a forum! The creation of new local forums here happens when there are a lot of threads and a lot of topics about an area. If you want a Toledo forum, the best thing to do is actively discuss Toledo here in this one.

Administrator monitors the number of posts and threads about areas and will create a forum when he believes there are enough of each to justify a new forum.

Well, let's see what an advanced search in the Ohio forum brings up....how about a thread count first:

• There are 98 threads in the Ohio forum that include the name "Toledo" in the thread's title...

http://www.city-data.com/forum/searc...rchid=11929175

• There are 110 threads that contain the name "Akron" in the thread's title...

http://www.city-data.com/forum/searc...rchid=11929193

So all we have to do is create 12 more threads with the name "Toledo" and we're good to go, right?

And let's do post count:

• There are 297 posts which contain the name "Toledo"...

http://www.city-data.com/forum/searc...rchid=11929400

• There are 337 posts which contain the name "Akron"...

http://www.city-data.com/forum/searc...rchid=11929384

So all we need are people to mention the name "Toledo" in an additional 40 posts, and that should make it happen.

It all seems reasonable to me. Or is there a magic number that has to be hit before Toledo is considered worthy of its own sub-forum?

So because Canton is thrown into the mix, it warrants being included in its own sub-forum? Why not just put Cleveland, Akron and Canton - along with Youngstown - into it's own "Northeast Ohio" subforum?

Rapid City (SD) doesn't even have its own sub-forum, although there are more threads with the name "Rapid City" than either Toledo or Akron. So apparently post/thread count has nothing to do with whether a place gets its own sub-forum.

Not that I'm trying to sound like a smart-alec about all this, but Toledo is in a somewhat "unique" position in Ohio and has enough chatter about it that it should have its own sub-forum...at least titled "Northwest Ohio", particularly when you consider that Bowling Green alone has 83 posts in which its mentioned, including 13 threads devoted to it.

Because Akron and Canton are the same metro and share the same suburbs. It's been discussed over and over how Akron-Canton is different than Cleveland. If Youngstown had a sub-forum i'm sure it would be the "Youngstown-Warren sub-forum, not just Youngstown. Toledo doesn't have a "Canton".

Northeast Ohio is much more densely populated than Northwest Ohio. We have 3 major cities where NW only has Toledo.

I agree. Toledo needs a forum, and I don't know why the moderators don't start one. There are more threads about Toledo here than many other subforums in other states. The times that I've been here the Toledo posts and threads have been just as prevalent as Dayton or Akron-Canton. It's curious that Dayton and Akron-Canton only recently received their own subforums, which was far too long in my opinion. Ohio should definitely have 6 subforums, and possibly a 7th in Youngstown.

I'm moving from Toledo and Ohio soon, but I'll start a few Toledo threads and we'll see what happens. Toledo is a far more important city for the state than how it is often depicted, and it deserves more attention from the rest of the state.

Just to be clear, the only person in authority at City-Data who can create forums is Administrator. He owns the place and with ownership comes the right to make those calls.

Expect Administrator to weigh in on this thread in the next few days.

In the meantime, rather than making "me too" posts, you folks who want a Toledo forum should be doing three things to demonstrate your keen interest: posting about Toledo; starting threads about Toledo topics; and reviving Toledo threads here in the Ohio forum (with new information, not bumps!).
