Any really bad areas in Bowling Green?
Hi! I am going to go to grad school at Bowling Green. Currently I am in Kent and I moved here without knowing the city or people in it. I wound up in a bad area of town fixed into a lease for a year because the price was cheap.
I admit again I am doing the same thing but I don't know anyone in Bowling Green. Are there bad sections as far as drug use or excessive partying? I know it's a college town so that is expected some but I am a female in my late twenties and really just need a quiet reasonably priced place to study.
What are the safest and best places I should be looking? I thank you in advance for any information and thank you for reading my post.

Bowling Green is actually fairly small and basically broken up into "student housing" and "everyone else." It is a well known party school and the undergrads will be loud. Vast majority of the rentals listed are student housing. There isn't a wide spread "bad" areas of BG - the everyone else portion of the city makes up your smaller families or older, retired couples, etc. You have to be more careful for the really shady areas when you start looking into the smaller towns (N. Baltimore, Fostoria, etc) or going into Toledo. However .. the "shady" out here is nothing like you would see in Cleveland, or even Akron. I'm in a small town about 12 miles outside of BG and the biggest "issues" I am aware of are the petty thefts/break-ins (bored teenagers) or the recreational drug use that you know the neighbors are doing. The BG area is a country bumpkin sort of area and isn't comparable to cities like Akron, Cleveland, bad parts of Toledo, etc.

I work with a guy who lives downtown so he can walk to the bars and all I've heard him complain about is feeding the parking meters. He has lived in BG his whole life and went to BGSU. The times I've been in BG, I've never had a problem.

BG is a really nice small town. While I'm sure there are some "less nice" areas, there really aren't any areas that would be considered "dangerous" like they would be in larger cities.

There are no bad areas in Bowling Green.
I went to school there. If you want something quiet I would contact Mecca Management or Newlove Rentals. They have a lot of options as far as rentals.
As a general rule the further away from campus you are the quieter it is going to be. Mecca has apts on Fairview that were quiet. There are also apartments on Manville that are for grad students only. I can't remember who manages it though. It's a brick building at the corner of Manville and Lehman. You get used to the trains.
If you don't want to be around excessive partying/noise then stay away from Downtown, Wooster St., Village Green, any of the apts between Wooster and 8th St and anything near Offenhaur.
If you want you cand send me a direct message when you have decided on a few places. I lived in Bowling Green for 10 years and rented the entire time. I pretty much know all there is to know about different landlords, apartments, etc.....
I hope you enjoy Bowling Green. I loved it there.

I grew up around BG and went to school in Kent myself. Kent has a lot more bad areas than BG. BG may have a few blocks or two that are industrial, but overall BG is much cleaner and nicer than Kent. As a general rule, stay at least a few blocks away from the train tracks, the fair grounds, and any mobile home parks, other than that you are pretty good to go. You really would have to look at the individual apartment building or house mates. I think its always a good idea to explore a town for a few days before signing a lease. If I were you I would try to live close to downtown so you can walk or ride a bike to some shopping and coffee shops. Good luck

Hi! I lived in BG for 3 years as an undergrad. While there aren't any "bad" areas of BG as far as crime is concerned, there are noisy areas. The "student ghetto," as it's known, is mostly comprised of the numbered streets. Downtown is also noisy, especially Thursday-Saturday. Some apartment complexes only house graduate students--I don't know their names offhand, but if you contact the university, they should have some advice and information for you. I can tell you that Newlove rentals has a horrible reputation. Good luck!
