New Route 24 - Ft Wayne to Toledo
They're about to break ground in Lucas County (Toledo area) for one of the remaining sections of the new Route 24. Northwest Ohio will finally have a direct, four lane limited access highway to the Fort Wayne, Indiana region. The new route is something like 50 years in the planning, and is supposed to be a major upgrade in terms of safety. It's caused some controversy regarding traffic and land seizures, but should ultimately foster commerce and industrial growth along its path.

Having driven this route once about 6 years ago when my wife was at Bowling Green, it should make for a much easier & smoother trek to Ft. Wayne; after taking that route there, I ended up just taking US-30 East to I-75 coming back to BG b/c even though it was a little out of the way and doing some back-tracking, it was essentially all expressway and you didn't get stuck behind semis on US-24 half the time.

That is the spot. The alignment was laid out and built when the original expansion from Maumee to Waterville occurred years ago.

That is what I thought, but what adjacent land do they have to bring it in on? I was thinking the ideal area was where fallen timbers golf course/subdivision went in. But it must be comming around that then. Hmmm.
Looks like they are preparing for work there soon, as there are lane closures from Waterville to the mall. Will be interesting to see what goes under, and what goes over.
