I forgot to ask if anyone can tell me what education jobs look like for music teachers in the areas around Bowling Green. My husband has been a band director in Texas for the past 7 years and is looking for a job in the surrounding areas. Can anyone help me with this? I would be much obliged.

Default Good Luck

Sorry due to your husband experience local districts will give him an interview but will only be hiring new teachers. That way they will not have to pay the higher salery to him. Also if you are an enducator in ohio and stop teaching to say have kids and come back good luck getting back into teaching. Schools now are only hiring young new teachers to save money.

if you want to teach please look outside ohio.

Unfortunately, I have heard similar stories. Two of my high school friends went into music education. One ended up getting a band diretor's position somewhere close to Columbus and the other had to go to Maryland to find a music teaching job.

It sounds like a tough market in this area.

I remember reading the city Toledo which is a short drive away theres a shortage of substitute teachers. You could possibly use it as a stepping stone to something else if he dosent mind teaching in a public schools.

Default Music education in Ohio and CA

I grew up in Northwestern Ohio. My uncle was the band director and my aunt, the music teacher for our school -- grade school and high schools. They are since deceased and my cousin, their daughter who lives in California is now embarking on a new career in music education. She tells me that they cut the music program at her son's school, though, so I don't know where she'll get a job. It's sad for me to hear of music programs being cut. It's a sad statement about our society, I think.
