I'm from Southern California. So I don't really know where Toledo is in relation to the other major cities. But I thought that this CNN blurb might be of interest.
Is this mayor "f-ing" nuts or what? Is he intentionally trying to commit political suicide? Because chickens**t shakedowns like this followed by a pompous and evasive attitude are almost a guaranteed way to ensure he is out of a job come next election.
At the very least he could've tried to present his side of the argument.
Sheesh. I guess some people still just don't get it. This isn't the way to keep a high approval rating.
I read about this in my local paper. What a load of bull! They're parking in their own freakin' driveways!! Whether it's gravel or not, what the hell difference does it make? They're on private property!
Next thing you know, cities are going to start telling people they can't walk on their own grass!
Well if anyone in the Toledo area has some political aspirations, this dumb$hit pretty much sealed his fate and has all but assured any opponent with even partial brains and charisma a landslide victory.
A candidate who clubs a kitten while shaking hands with Darth Vader on The Tonight Show would now have a better shot at victory than "f"-ing around with people like this and handing out these petty, vindictive, and frankly, BS parking tickets. And then has the gall to ignore the questions as though never asked....on live TV.
What an idiot. In these times, a stunt like that and it's almost as if he's daring the public to make him a target.
People from outside the area are only starting to learn what most locals have known for a long time, and unfortunately, are by now quite used to... our city's mayor, despite a lot of love for the area and some honestly good intentions, is very hard-headed and often won't back down on extremely controversial or contentious issues, no matter how outlandish.
Due to a recent drop in income tax revenue, the city of Toledo's finances are in bad shape and the mayor has the unenviable job of finding ways to fix that. This latest incident of defending unfair parking tickets obviously goes too far, and is by no means a positive step towards balancing the budget. Most people here are already fed up enough to pretty much guarantee he won't be re-elected.

Right now there are four major political candidates running for mayor so its going to be tough for whoever wins. The city of Toledo is in a financial crisis right now and mainly due to insuffiencient use of funds. The city just laid off 75 police officers although 29 are scheduled to go back to work next month thanks to money from the state and federal government. Basically the city of Toledo is relying on bailout money from the government to help take care of its financial situation, but theres no guarantee that more money will come so Carty felt he had to do what he had to do. Im not for it especially being my driveway is gravel and now I have to park somewhere else, but the city is 12 million dollars in the red and is in desperate need of cash.... I feel personally Carty is really loosing his cool and is making drastic decisions. I also found this clip on youtube of Carty over at Highland Park on the southside.

Man, what a douche! I mean with a cartoonish name like "Carty Finkbeiner", I couldn't take this guy seriously to begin with, but now with this whole parking ticket thing and this video I really can't!
Something tells me if the Democrats and the Unions didn't run the entire Rust Belt, idiots like this would never get elected.
I like Toledo and they deserve better than this guy.

He is nuts. He wanted deaf people to move to houses by the airport because of noise complaints by people who already lived there. Yet, he keeps getting re-elected.
I think it's funny that people from outside Toledo think this stuff will get Carty out of office. LOLs.
This is the stuff that gets him reelected.
Besides the airport remark there was the Eriee Street Market incident a few years ago and today the Blade is reporting he called some local teen a "fatso" and "tubby."
Man, I'm telling you this guy used to infuriate me. Now, I just laugh. If that's what the good citizens of Toledo want then that is what they get.
He was on the Daily Show a few years ago promoting Toledo as the movie capital of the midwest. Actually not a bad idea.
I remember some teens kept spray painting his driveway at night about 10 years ago or so.
I used to live on Holland-Sylvania and Door. Just a couple blocks north of where these these tickets were given. Guess I'm glad I'm not there now. I would hate to have to pay the city to park at my house.

Live here now, in the North End, Polish Village area.
The Mayor backed up an Acting Commissioner in the Streets, Bridges and Harbors department. The Acting Commissioner is the same person who was arrested because of her over zealousness related to allegedly parked cars in 2005.
She was with the Neighborhoods Department and was transferred/promoted to the Streets, Bridges and Harbor Department and is now, as her title on the city web site, states, Acting Commissioner. City Code calls for Commissioners to be PE, Professional Engineers. Searching the state registry of PE's her name is not listed.
Frederick needs to go once and for all.
The legislation to allow Commissioners to ticket is/has been abused by her.
The ticketed locations in question, where not purely graveled driveways.
"The Finkbeiner administration assured residentsyesterday that gravel driveways are perfectly legal but parkingvehicles on gravel-covered areas in the front or side lots of a home isagainst the law."
Back peddling after expressing confidence in the ticketing of over 50 people, by the Acting Commissioner, which is something the media has not picked up on yet. Is she qualified to be a Commissioner.
