Need Info MI/OH!
[SIZE=2]Can someone give me their input on what are the best places to live in lower southeastern MI and around Toledo OH? I am having the worst time trying to find out what places are safest and that have the most shopping options! Not to mention it seems like Ohio has really high property taxes. Can anybody give me info on a town that has:
1. Low Property Tax [ as low as possible anyway ]
2.Safest
3. Shopping/Restaurants [ walmart,pizza hut etc. ]
Thanks in advance.

If you want to live on the MI side of the line, Temperance, Bedford, Lambertville are all nice, kind of like living in the country. Monroe itself has higher property taxes. Erie is also nice, feels like country. Toledo will be much higher in taxes, much more congested, as it is a city. Any of the areas I mentioned are just a short drive from just about any type of shopping you can imagine.

Thanks for your input! Do you know about flooding in those areas?

I live in west Toledo now for maybe 12 yrs, but Monroe (Frenchtown Twp) for more years than I can count before that, my kids all live in Monroe still. Our neighborhood flooded several times with heavy rains due to sewer problems if that's what you mean. Most of that problem has improved with all the work they've done, but there are many areas around the city that flood a little from rains. Temperance, Bedford and Lambertville I have not seen mention of flooding. The lake areas (called Beach areas up in Monroe) have not had flooding in many, many years due to the dikes. Monroe itself will flood around the Raisin River just about every spring thaw, but that's a given and I never hear of much damage to homes. If you are looking for more of a country feel, any of the areas around Monroe (Newport, Ida, Maybe or Dundee are all very nice. If you need to be closer to Toledo but want not so crowded, Perrysburg, Rossford or Sylvania are all very nice also.

Any area around the Maumee River is pretty prone to flooding, mostly during spring thaw. Waterville, Defiance and Grand Rapids get hit pretty frequently, but they just deal with it. Toledo itself only floods from rain/sewer system that can't keep up, never from Lake Erie that I have lived to see, not to say that some of the shoreline areas never have or never will, just not as devistating as something like a hurricane. Of course you will have a chance anywhere you live if it is close to a river.
