Bowling Green , Ohio
My family and I could possibly be moving to this location, job related. We are currently in Upstate ny and have done some research, comparing the 2 areas. Certainly cost of living is cheaper their than it is up here.
What are the schools like? I see their are 5? elementary school in the area. We have a similuar setup here and certainly some are better than others. How are they their? my kids ages, 9,6,5.
Would probably have to rent first, until our current house is sold ect.. Not much online as far as apts help,m anyone have any ideas for that area?
Any thing else I shoud know, crime in and around that area? I'm sure its higher up in the Toledo area.
thanks in advance.

Well im sure you will like Bowling Green. I visit that area a lot. I live in the suburbs of Cleveland but i commute to the Toledo metro all the time. I pass through Bowling Green and i make many stops there. It is a very nice city and the people are very very friendly.
The city is a growing with about 30,000 people. It is a little diverse with a growing hispanic population. Its not far from Toledo or Columbus, about 2 hours to Columbus. Its not far from Cedar Point and Lake Erie is not too far away either. There are some great beaches up that way. Overall my experience in Bowling Green has been great. If you need more information i will try and help.

Excellent, thx for your quick response. The population runs close to where we live now, so that is fine. Its seems to have everything a small city needs, stores, places to eat, ect..

No problem. Yes it is very nice. It has a mall or two i believe. I remember every chain restaurant being in the city though. Also all the chain stores. Alot of my family use to live in Upstate NY but, all of them moved out because of jobs and the economy up there. I have neighbors down the street from Buffalo that just moved here in Westlake outside of Cleveland. They really love it here.

Wife is doing research on the 5 elementary schools and the BG school system as a whole. Seems they don't score well at all, in fact only one of them passes good, but all of them fail Math and Science. Is the Public school system really that bad their?

I dont know about Bowling Green. But alot of the schools here in the Cleveland metro not too far from Bowling Green about 2 hours have some of the best ratings in the country. Bay Village and Avon Lake scored very high. In the top 100 best school districts in the country. Im sure if you do research on some other towns around Bowling Green. Im sure you will find something that you are satisfied with.
I know i would rather live in Bowling Green than up state NY. No offense but my family has nothing but negatives to say about that area and i have read nothing but negatives. My neighbors from Buffalo down the street love it here and they always talk about how the job market there was horrible. Im sure you will find alot of goods around that area. Bowling Green is a very nice city.

Also check out the cities of Portage and Fremont. Fremont is a very good sized town. Its about the same size as Bowling Green. Its right down the freeway from Bowling Green. You could check out the schools there. Fremont, Ohio looks like it would be good for some of the things you are looking for.
But i think the two best cities would be Fostoria or Findlay. You will have to do some research on them. But they are about the same size as Bowling Green and they are in some nice areas. Do as much research as you can and then plan a trip down here. You get a better visual of the area over what the internet can give you. Good luck and im here to help if you need more info.

I really apreciate the info and yes, if job happens, then we will be making a trip out to see first hand. The internet is great, but nothing beats "being there".
