There are many nice neighborhoods in Toledo!
There are many nice neighborhoods in Toledo! You mentioned you are looking for a family neighborhood, correct? Well, I'm a local Realtor, and have been working in throughout Toledo and the metropolitan area for over 13 years now. It just depends on what you are looking for! Your price range, where you'll be working, what kind of activities that your kids and spouse like to do. There are a lot of factors to take in to consideration. Maybe Toledo is best, maybe one of the suburbs would be better for you.
Thanks,
Rick

Do not move to Toledo
I currently live in Toledo and I felt that I should add my 2 cents to this discussion. I am originally from the Pittsburgh area & moved here b/c it was one of the only schools that I was accepted into medical school at. Toledo is by far the worst place in which I have lived. For this reason, I am not even considering residencies in Northwest OH. My girlfriend moved with me and had a terrible time finding work. The crime rate is astronomical. Many of my friends have had things (computers, etc..) stolen from their cars or lockers at the university. The entire down-town area is falling apart with many condemned buildings. There is absolutely nothing to do (no pro sports, no culture, a few outdoor activities) Furthermore, in addition to the well-known facts about crime rates, unemployment, etc... being very high here, the people who live here always seem to be in a bad mood and impolite. I guess I might also be grumpy if I were forced to spend more than a few years here. I can't wait to leave.

Sorry for your bad experiences in Toledo, but I want to make it clear that cities COMPARABLE to Toledo (i.e. demographics, size, region etc.) have higher crimes rates on average than Toledo. The ecomony of almost the entire industrial upper midwest is in shambles, definatly not unique to Toledo. A simple google search would have shed light on this before you made the move. If you dont move there for school, than you better already have a job lined up. What outdoor activities arent avalible outside of things needing a mountian? When you say theres nothing to do in Northwest Ohio, I assume you say theres nothing to do in Sandusky (i.e. Cedar Point), Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland. One of the strengths of the city is that its centrally located between all the major midwestern cities. If your that desperate for "big city" things to do megabus will take you to anyone of them for around $1. Dont dont have to contain yourself to just Toledo.
Pittsburg is a great city and I enjoyed myself there but its bleeding population at a far greater rate than toledo. In fact Toledo, who by all means has far less amentites has a larger population count in its city limits. It all depends on what perspective you look at it from I guess.

thinking of moving to berkey oh
hi all, I was wondering if you could help me. I read some of the stuff you guy wrote up here and said that Berkey OH would be a great please to move to and it has low crime rate. I'm considering a teaching job up there but I look it up and it says that it really doesn't have a very big verity of races. How will is it for a family of a different race to move there? I'm just wondering because i know a lot of place that have issues like this. I'm not saying just toledo but in a lot of place. IF you can help it be great. Thanks

Hi. I live about 6 miles from Berkey, so I may be of some help.
I do not think you would have any problem. As is true anywhere, you may have those 2 or 3 people who say something. Unfortunately, it's those people who generally stick in people's minds.
At my school, people are treated quite equally.
