That is SO cool. Thank you for posting it. I kind of like the top one better. It's easier to read the numbers.

Wow, I knew we got a lot of Tornado Warnings (which freak me out), but didn't realize we are right up in the Top 4.

Though I shouldn't complain, because thankfully most of them are under F2.

My area doesn't get nearly as many tornadoes as they do in the southern plains states. But the ironic thing is that a few years ago we had a day called "Tornado Tuesday". We had 60 some tornadoes in about 8 hours or so. They keep track of the tornadoes by 24 hour periods and we tied with Tx. for the most tornadoes in one day, but ours were in a shorter period of time. It's really nothing to be proud of to hold that type of record though.

We do get a few of the big ones up here, but the states straight south of us generally have more powerful tornadoes then we do.

Yeah, but...

I think this would be a better map if it expressed a ratio of tornados per square mile. If you did that, I think that Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana would actually top the list. For example, here's a listing of counties that get the most tornados in the country:

Frequency County State Square Miles
19.28 Union MS 415
18.68 Simpson MS 589
17.30 Chester TN 289
15.63 Fillmore NE 576
15.46 Morgan AL 582
14.79 Jasper MS 676
13.91 Thayer NE 575
13.07 Bartow GA 459
12.62 Jackson AR 634

or cities

Value City State
10.2 Tulsa OK
9.3 Shreveport LA
8.8 South Bend IN
7.6 Indianapolis IN
7.5 Huntsville AL
7.3 Topeka KS
6.9 Springfield IL
6.2 Jackson MS
6.0 Nashville TN

OK, so are you saying that Tulsa would be the top city per square mile for having tornadoes?

I hope you don't mind I borrowed your map and put it into a Florida forum too. Great map.
