When Cold meets warm. Big push from the south ahead of the front building warmth and humidity, with the lid coming off the atmosphere lead to explosive thunderstorm/tornado developments

Kentucky was at the center of the 1974 Super Outbreak.. and the death toll from last night is nearly there and will likely surpass it. March 1890 outbreak only deadliest tornado outbreak in state history.

I don't have a tv and can only rely on YouTube and it almost seems that every town in Kentucky was struck last night. Every time I watch another video this morning, it's about a different small town in Kentucky.

Has anyone counted the number of tornadoes last night yet?

I heard earlier, that they believe at least 30 tornadoes touched down across several states, covering a path of over 200 miles.

Some facts:

• No overall trend in U.S. tornado activity since 1954; but EF 3 or stronger is down 50%.

• Weather models cannot resolve mesoscale features.

• Some enviro conditions may become more favorable in future, others less.

• Low confidence in climate change linkage.

Just wow!

I wish I was healthy enough to take a tractor and some generators over and help out those folks but even Arkansas is a LONG way from here and I doubt I could make that sort of trip these days.

Here on the Texas South Plains, we know how tornadoes can affect lives.
