So here I am, hours away from my first Canada Day. What would be the most traditional place to celebrate this holiday in Toronto? For instance, is there a place where the main celebration takes place every year, with bands playing, fireworks in the evening, vendors, etc?
I will hopefully be here to attend other Canada Days in the years to come, but I'd like the first celebration to be one that I reminisce about as a very special occasion.
Ontario Place has it's annual fireworks celebration by the lake, check it out: Ontario Place • Events & Entertainment (http://www.ontarioplace.com/en/02_events/events_july.html - broken link)
Though you will find Canada Day celebrations in Toronto, eventually (if you want to see a big celebration) you should plan a trip up to Ottawa for July 1. It is probably not possible for you this year but do consider it at some point in the future.
Probably the biggest Canada event in the City is at Mel Lastman Square in North York (That the yonge line north to North york Centre station)

There are also fireworks at
Downsview Park
Centennial Park
Ashbridge’s Bay
Stan Wadlow Park
Mel Lastman Square
Canada’s Wonderland
Festival of Fire at Ontario Place
all except the last 2 are free.
