Toronto feels just as much "Toronto" to me as Montreal feels "Montreal".
I'd still like to see someone explain to me in a convincing way why downtown Montreal (or more in keeping with the original point of the thread, downtown Chicago or downtown Los Angeles) is more cosmopolitan and exciting than downtown Toronto.
I know it is hard for you to understand (and even accept) but Montreal has a tremendously unique and strong sense of place when compared to Toronto.
Funny, because we're talking about downtown proper for both cities. Montreal is awesome, but downtown is usually the last place you'd want to hang out if you knew any better......unless you're a first year McGill/Concordia student or a tourist.

Montreal is great and it's my favourite city out of Chicago, LA, and Toronto, but it has my least favourite downtown out of all mentioned. Montreal's charm is ALL about its surrounding neighbourhoods with bars, restaurants, cafes and places to hang out within.
