I'm not even from Toronto, but I cringe whenever I hear on youtube videos or from people in general pronounce it Tore-Ron-Toe, with every T sounding very sharp. I'm sure many other Torontonians would agree that it's the easiest way to spot an out-of-towner if they pronounce it like that.
I normally say Tore-Ron-No, as it sounds not so newbish but not so local either, since I'm not from there.
And I find that die-hard Torontonians say it like Chuh-ronno, and even MORE die-hard people say Chuh-ron-nuh, which translates into the most hardcore pronounciation ever : Chuhronnuh.
Can any Torontonians confirm this? Or not confrim this? lol thanks.

Born and raised in Toronto, and lived there until I was in my 40s.

Ta-RON-na.

Let's not also forget Yonge Street (pronounced "Young"), Strachan Avenue (pronounced "Strawn"), Baby Point Road (pronounced "Bobby Point"), and Etobicoke (pronounced "E-tobe-ih-co"). These are how you can tell the Torontonians ("Toe-ron-TOE-nee-ans") from the outsiders.

We have a street in Windsor, and a historic house, both named Baby, and it drives me nuts when people say "Oh, have you ever been to the François BABY house?" Or "I live on BABY street."

NO! It's BAH-BEE!!!!!

lol

It should be pronounced "Tor-ron-to". "Churono" or "tawranaw" is said by those grievously affected by the Canadian accent.

If you all just spoke simple English I wouldn't keep teasing you..

I well remember the American business associate who came to our office in Mississauga. Part of my job was to entertain him outside of office hours, and one night, he wanted to see Yonge Street. Only he called it "Yong" Street, like it was a Chinese word.

Me: No, it's "Young" Street.
Him: But it's not spelled that way. You must be playing a joke on me. Let's go see "Yong" Street.
Me: No, seriously, it's "Young" Street.
Him: But it's not spelled that way!

Thankfully, at the end of the night, I put him in a taxi with instructions to take him to the Delta Meadowvale in Mississauga. He had had a few drinks, as had I, but even so, it is hard to mispronounce "Delta," "Meadowvale," and "Mississauga" to a cabbie; and since he showed up at the office next morning, I can only assume that he got to his hotel safely.
