Hello,

II'm from Ottawa and I've recently been given offered a job in the Markham area, close to the Seneca college Markham campus. I currently do not own a car and I'd like to live somewhere that is easily accessible to that area by public transit (even in the winter). The new developments around the Birchmount/ Enterprise intersection would be an ideal location, but I'd like something that's more affordable. I'd like some suggestions on where to live, or what students at the Seneca Markham campus do for living arrangements. I am looking for a 1br apartment; it could be a condo or a basement apartment. Also, as I am new to the GTA, any advice about life in the Markham area is highly welcome.

Cheers

Public transit is good along Hwy 7 - with dedicated bus lanes for VIVA busses, it is also faster than a car. So the best option would be to chose one of the condo buildings along hwy 7. There are many options, 1 BR would cost you upwards of $1300.

Is $1300 the least expensive for a decent 1 bedroom?

Pretty sure there are less costly options. $1300 would be for a new condo, but there are coach houses in Cornell for under $1000. There's also basement apartments for even less although I'm not sure if that qualifies as decent.
