I thought i'd revive this thread because one of the ugliest parts of Toronto is/was the portlands. An industrial wasteland in a prime part of the city. What was worse, some of the city's most appealing parts, the beaches areas are surrounded by it. Well, no longer. A 1.25 billion dollar development project is underway that is/will literally transform this area, including redirecting the mouth of the Don river to flow naturally and in support of natural habitats. This area will be reclaimed for the citizens of the city to enjoy and will be served as well by LRT's so everyone in the city is connected.
This is one of the most transformative waterfront projects in the history of the city and set to be completed by 2024. It'll connect the east waterfront to the main city like never before.
