Hello,
I am a US citizen and I'm considering a great job in Toronto, but my husband is a lawyer barred in the US, so he would ideally want to work over the border, likely in Buffalo. Is it conceivable for us to live somewhere in the middle, perhaps Hamilton, and each make the commute in different directions? It looks like lots of people do the Hamilton to Toronto commute- how is that? And can anyone speak to the commute from the Hamilton area to Buffalo? (Or maybe I should also post in a Buffalo forum?) At some point we may start a family, so this could be further complicated by having kids...
Thank you!

Just find a place where both of you can live and work. Work is not everything in life - commuting 2-3 hours every day can bring a lot of misery.
It's a drive. Hamilton to Toronto is a lot of traffic, and Hamilton to Buffalo is 60+ miles/100+Km. It's deceptive - if he worked in Lewiston or Niagara Falls NY it would be marginally better.
Imagine each of you being 1-2 hours away if something happens with the kids or you get the call "your child has a fever, please pick him/her up now".
Then, imagine doing this in the winter.
The GO Train, if an option for you, only goes as far as Hamilton so living in Niagara isn't workable either.
My advice is that unless you can telecommute 2-3 days a week that you will find yourselves too tired to even have a child.
How much do you like to drive. Traffic in peak times can be nuts. We live in Toronto and at times my husbands works in places closer to the boarder and it is very stressful ex you have to leave very early and come back late to miss peak traffic times and even then it is still like 1-1.5 hour drive. We also don't usually have to worry about child care as my parents take care of my child after school until one of gets home. No an easy situation. The ironic part as even living in Toronto it can take you an hour to get home depending on the route from one part of the city to another and the time of day. If you are planning to have a family soon this seems like a crazy idea ex being pregnant and driving 1.5 hrs each way to and from work sounds like a unwanted burden. Good luck.
