Is there any movie/TV show happening in Toronto
We know many movies are shot in Toronto each year, which makes the city one of the biggest movie production center in North America. But are there any popular movies/TV shows that actually use Toronto as the setting?
Even second tier US cities such as Seattle, Miami and Boston have movies/TV shows. I'd really like to see that happen for Toronto as well.

People from around the world do drive-bys on Degrassi St. when in Toronto. I can’t think of anything similar to it in that city from the realm of TV or film.
Of course, people from around the world also do pilgrimages to Geddy Lee and Rush’s old haunts as well, but that’s not from TV or film.

This is very true, Degrassi has a huge following in the States especially. The N which is the network that holds the rights to Degrassi the next generation, actually has exclusive rights to the first 13 episodes of each season, so it will air in the US 13 episodes before Canada and CTV.
The Degrassi goes Hollywood TV movie premiered in the US a couple weeks ahead as well.
There is no other Toronto based TV series that has more success.

Degrassi is our legacy? Ugh.
But yeah, unfortunately many movies and TV shows that are shot in Toronto are just substituting it for another city. There are many shows that use Toronto as their setting, but since I can't really think of any that haven't already been listed, they're either not that popular or aren't current.
It's strange that Vancouver doesn't get more spotlight either, seeing as how a lot of production goes on there.

As an avid HGTV fan (Home and Garden television- on cable) they have plenty going on in Toronto. I swear like 90% feels like reality based TV on that station. I watch the American HGTV version and they bring in many of the shows from HGTV Canada: For Rent, Income Property, Property Virgin (this I have seen taped also in the US with the same Canadian host), the Stagers...

Regarding Vancouver it's strange that the new series "V" is actually filmed in Vancouver? That surprised me but then I guess with all the special effects they show NYC in the background.

Most TV shows are made to be watched in the USA and many people in the USA don't know much about Canada. If you ask the average American to point to Toronto on a map, they won't be able to. So that is why they FILM in Toronto but say it is in an American city.
