Better city for an interantional student, Calgary or Toronto?
Hi,
I would like to know which city is better for an international student (India). I would be doing Post-diploma in managment.(2 years)
I am looking for the following points :
1. Job opportunities after finishing my study.
2. Higher salary after finishing my study.
3. Availabilty of part time job while studying.
4. Higher salary in part time job as well.(i would need to pay off my education loan, submitt my 2nd years Tution fees and take care of my living expenses).
5. Cheaper living expenses for e.g. Clothing, transportation, groceries and day to day expenses(I know house rent are somewhat similar in both the cities)
As far as i know both the cities have good public transportation system in order to transit with in the city.
I would like to know Water and Electricty bill are generally included in house rents or not?
Please guide me on the same.
Thanks,
Manpreet

I have no personal experience but for what it is worth, my sister went to university in both Toronto and Calgary and she hated Calgary. This was about 5 years ago. I think it is much up to the individual. It was the 'lack of culture' that bothered my sister the most about Calgary.

Well, it is not surprising as the city developed fairly rapidly only for the past 30 years, and all because something pretty boring: oil.
Calgary was however ranking number 1 as the cleanest city in the world a couple of years ago.

Calgary is your best choice, Toronto economy is slowing down, while Calgary's is booming. Think about it.. CGY was almost never talked about on an international level 2 or 3 decades ago, it's growing rapidly.

I would go for Toronto if you are a big city type of person. It's much more vibrant and multicultural than Calgary. If you are planning to have an office job, TO would definitely be my choice. Whatever people might say, Toronto is the most global city in Canada and there are endless opportunities there.

Here you have provided helpful information about abroad study. Now a days students want to go abroad for their higher study. I think Canada and USA are very good countries for study in different courses.

Calgary would be a better choice for all those factors. Their job market is booming, even Tim Horton's (a donut shop here) pays several dollars more than in other parts of Canada, so you can find a job much more easily than in Toronto. There are tons of opportunities, less taxes, and great if you have an enterprising spirit.
There are disadvantages as well, but none of them relevent to the factors you listed (for example, it's colder than toronto, less multicultural, etc.).

Toronto is buy far your best choice for a lot of reasons. Toronto has a lot more educational choices than Calgary. Toronto is the business capital of Canada so there are obviously more of those types of jobs there. Toronto has a very large number of people from India if you feel homesick. The Indian culture in Toronto is very vibrant and totally accepted. Calgary really reminds me of Texas and I'm not really impressed with the cowboy culture. That's just me of course. I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with it. The best thing I like about Calgary is that when I go through it I know that I'm on my way to Vancouver. Why have you not considered Van as a place to go to school?
