I finally had a chance to get inside a 2012 Camry XLE the other day @ one of our local Toyota dealerships and I was very impressed! I had heard quality (interior) had improved, wanted to see for myself!
The interior is a much higher quality of materials and fit-n-finish! The console is no longer cheap feeling like it is in the '11 models, the switches overall feel very high quality, all panels fit perfectly, everything is just NICE! I am so glad Toyota has made a step in the right direction with this car! We could be approaching the same interior quality that we had in the 1992-96 Camrys, which was the best ever IMO.
I only hope that they incorporate the same improvement in material quality and build quality into the interiors on all of its other cars in the future! IMO, its the highest quality Toyota being made new now, even better than the current new Avalon.
Anyone else had a chance to check out a '12 Camry? Prices are reasonably as well... a '12 XLE, 4-cyl, with navigation (the one I looked at) stickered for $27K. I think the V6 can near/exceed $30K however.
ALSO glad to see you can now get the navigation option without being forced to get leather interior with the option (as you did on the '11 models).
They darn well needed to with all the other competitors snipping at their heels. ie. Hyundai, Kia, 2012 Passat...etc.
It's nice, a notch below but still a viable alternative to a 2008-2012 Accord in my opinion. The quality has gone up quite a bit. The old Camry looks positively 1973 in comparison.
One car magazine tested the new 4 cylinder Camry and based upon their test, the 4 cylinder is no speed slouch. It's 0-60 is around 8 seconds which is pretty good for a midsize four door family sedan with a four banger. They also improved the 4 cylinder's MPG numbers. The 4 cylinder is the volume Camry. The V6 carries over which isn't a bad thing since it's pretty quick. In this coming era of increasing CAFE standards, I'm surprised Toyota didn't go the 4 cylinder turbo route for the optional engine. It's not like Toyota has NO experience with turbos.
Because the 2GR-FE V6 is a very well designed V6 that consumes less fuel then turbocharged 4-cylinders which guzzle in the fuel..
Dont' ever use rental spec cars as the basis for determining whether teh consumer level car you might buy is any good or not. As an example, i had a Ford Contour SVT. A fantastic driver's car, consistently ranked by enthusiast magazines as one of the best enthusiast buys on teh market at the time. I loved it. I also drove a rental Contour of the same time period. Hated it. Horrid little car. Yet, it was basically the same car. Shows how much difference a trim level can be.
That Fusian rental was not an SEL or Sport version....
The Toyota Camry looks and is way better then the Ford

It is true.. the camry has MORE percentage of american made parts and is assembled in kentucky. Also the highest american parts content minivan is the toyota siena. The Tundra has the highest content of american parts for full size pickups as well.
Just make sure you drive a Nissan Altima and a Ford Fusion before you buy!
...And a Honda Accord (: I can't stop driving my Accord, it's that awesome.
