120k is nothing and the price isn't bad. All the mechanic can tell you is its current condition. He can't tell you how well its been maintained over the years. If you can get the VIN, take it to the nearest Toyota dealership to the seller and see if they have a history on it.
ya I understand that. Everyone that I know with Toyota's tell me that 120k is still really young so that's why I'm even considering. Any other car, I'd pass on. I'll see if I can try that vin number idea!

The ad says it is in good condition and from the pics it looks fine and the owner is only selling it because they are moving out of the country.
I asked my moms friend who is a mechanic but i'm waiting for him to get back to me. Meanwhile, I figured I'd check here.

120k on an 2000 Toyota is no biggie and you're actually getting a good deal with what I've seen some 00-02 Toyota/Nissan/Honda cars go for here in Louisville. I have an 2001 Honda myself with 124k miles and it is still running despite some improper repair and some damage that was my fault. If the mechanic says everything is fine, go for it.

Ya, that's what I thought. I have to take out a bank loan but I'm hoping I get almost half back when I sell my current car to put towards the car loan. we'll see. I'm hoping my brother can go with my mom's friend to check it out for me today since I'll be working and going to school all day. First, I have to see if its even still available. crossing my fingers!
And why would that be? I have bought 3 used vehicles from dealers and gotten good deals each time.
After my experience with my current car, that I bought from a small dealer..I tend to agree with that poster. My first car was better than this POS! and it had more miles on it than this one! I've been very good about maintenance too..which says a lot for a poor college kid!

This is what others who own that year of Camry are saying:
Funny how many times (usually Craigslist ads) I've heard this exact story. Seems like almost 20% of all the ads say that. I don't even believe it. How many people do you know have moved outside of the US? Even if it was true, why would the owner feel they have to give a justification for selling a car?
Agreed, they are most likely lying.

Never, ever finance an older used car that is out of warranty. That is a big mistake. Buy something you can pay for in cash. I paid $500 for my Ford Escort and it was a reliable daily driver that never broke down so they are out there.
Have a mechanic look at it. All and all they are a good car. My wife just bought a 2010 Camry. She still has a 99 Corola with 175,000 and it still an excellent running car.
Had my mom call the guy for me since I was at work all day. She got a really shady vibe from the guy so we're not doing that. I guess one of the really good dealerships out here is having some great deals and they have always offered free maintenance for life so we'll see. Hoping they have a car in my price range since they normally have cars in the $10,000 and up range and I can't afford that right now.
my mechanic swears by camry. i just bought a 2003 2 door solara, with 103,000 miles it needed brakes and a fuel pump other than that its runs great, a v6 good gas mileage and rides like a big car.
