how does the 4 cyl engine in my 2012 Yaris differ from the 2002 Echo engine and my old 1992 Tercel engine? Just trying to get an idea on how the engine "evolved" over the decades

i notice that the first recommended oil change in my 92 Tercel was 1000 miles, but in my Yaris it's now every 5000 miles, even for the first oil change

is there a big difference now compared to 1992? my 92 Tercel kept going and going and going, even with it's oil burning issue and failing the emissions tests. when i donated it, somebody bought it off Cars 4 Kids for over $500

any experts here who know how this works?
