yaris is a bit of a pile. toyota did not put anywhere near the build quality into the yaris as they do other vehicles. yaris is the successor to the echo and both vehicles suffer from maintenance issues that your typical toyota doesnt
Our Hyundai has over 130K and still ticking beautifully.
A friend of my wife had one she bought 4 years ago. It's now in a wrecking yard. The transmission was replaced twice and the engine died for good at about 70,000. Oh well, so much for the new & improved Hyundai.
I do not like the central gauges or the interior feel. I do actually like the looks, especially the hatchback. The Honda Fit has a better interior and looks more "regular", not weird.
It gets great gas mileage, tons of Yaris's on lots so you can get a good deal.
Forget the Toyota boring car get the Saturn Astra. This is a quality car that looks good, get good MPG and is made by an American company. Toyota quality is sagging while American quality is surging.

Maybe American quality is improving, but how about something to back up your statement that Toyota quality is "sagging????" I've seen nothing to suggest that Toyota's quality has gone downhill.
I will agree though that American companies are improving...but after the 80's and 90's, there was really nowhere to go but up.
