The 2014 Corolla has official been unveiled.

*LED headlights as standard
*40mpg+

*Passengers will be able to enjoy the increased space in near-silence thanks to raft of noise-reducing measures, including an acoustic glass windscreen, improved floor carpet insulation, an instrument panel seal between the cowl and the windshield, a fender sound insulator and, for good measure, an inner dash silencer pad

*More power,
*Valvematic engine

That's the base model.

It's an efficient, smooth and reliable box though. Mainly for fleets.

From boring to Fugly. Is Toyota trying to give up their #1 crown or something?

And I can't stand this trend of having a big black plastic bumper-strip thingy going across a gaping front grill opening. What the hell is driving this element? It can't be aesthetics. Airflow management maybe? If so couldn't they at least tidy up the look of it a bit?

Yes, that is weird. Even my '08 Camry has a 5 speed auto in it. You would think that if the trans had an extra gear, mileage would be even better.

Now that makes sense somewhat.

I wonder how much it's going to cost. With fuel prices going the way they are, we're not going to see $2.99/gallon gas anymore, IMO, I think this segment is going to be hard fought. Factor in the CAFE standards coming up and it's really going to be a competitive market for small cars like this.

Read the article, it has a new continuously variable transmission not a 4 speed.

I'm sorry.
That front end is straight out of the 1990s bar-of-soap fugly styling.
And I am a Corolla fan.
