yesterday I was going to work coming over an overpass that was kind of slippery (post storm that gave NY about 3-4 inches of snow). a yellow dash light came on briefly then went out. when i got to work i stayed in the car and turned on the overhead light (it was still dark when i got to work) and read the owners manual and determined that it was probably the slip indicator light (not the ABS light which i thought it was at first) that came on to indicate that the traction control had been applied at that time. am i accurate?

and i forgot to turn off the overhead light yesterday AM so it was on all day and all night. but the car started up this AM tho the car cranked over a bit slower and the lights were a little dim at first. now its fine.

did the car start because the overhead light (the interior lights near the front mirror) doesn't drain that much power off the battery?

I think that must be Vehicle stability control (or traction control) sign - usually it is "slippery sign". Whenever a slip is detected this will show up. So no reason to worry there.

I have left overhead light I think once and it doesn't drain much but better to make sure they are off before you go out.

thanks. this was surprising at first since ive had no issues at all with this car since i got it in 1/2012. i guess that was my first real slippery drive if the light came on.

Probably the traction control/vsc light that came on. So you are correct.

Your car started because you didn't completely drain the battery, and were able to get the car started with the juice it had left. Had the battery been older, or the weather colder, you might not have been so lucky. New batteries are way better than they were a few years ago...They seem to last for several years now, even the factory ones.
