i've owned corolla's for a number of years and i can tell you it's the best car in the world.i'm also in the car business so i get to observe all types of cars and for the money, reliability, fuel economy, the corolla is the best.
I don't know what the best car in the world is... although Toyota Corolla's are very dependable and competively priced and they are still made in the USA... Fremont CA to be exact.
Only car my Mom ever bought ever bought new... 8 years of driving and NO problems at all! One set of brake pads and regular oil and fluid service...
I didnt know they were made in Fremont, Ca. My fiancee has an 03 Corolla. Very reliable so far and good on gas (70k + miles consistent 30-40 mpg) but hers came from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada.
Too bad theyre about as fun as a root canal. Incredible reliability thought, which more than makes up for how boring they are. The Corolla XRS was a step in the right direction, but still fell too short in the fun-to-drive factor.
My wife is 46 and only owned 5 cars in her life. The last 4 (including her current one) have been Corollas. She drives them until they have 250,000 miles and then gets another one. She buys 5-speeds and gets a consistent 42mpg at 60 mph on the freeway and about 34 around town. Our overall mpg is 38. They are more quiet that the civic I once owned, but like most cars that size there is some road noise. I can't think of a bad thing to say about them. They are very plain vehicles (that's why she likes them) and just get the job done. They handle well and have decent giddy-up for the small engines they have.
I think very highly of them. I only wish they came in a coupe.
the corolla is soft, smushy, whimpy, and sorry steve-o, its not even as fun as a root canal. it's worse than a root canal. i would not pick it as the worlds best car by a longshot.
Corolla's may be reliable and inexpensive but they're not for everyone. For me, they'd be too small and too...basic. I like a little luxury to go with my vehicles that's why I love my Yukon Denali. If you're single, have a limited budget, and aren't really a "car nut" I'd say a Corolla might be a pretty good bet but otherwise there are be better choices. Personally if I was in the market for a car, I'd take a good hard look at the new Camry. For the price, they are pretty hard to beat especially the upper-end models.
All three of my Corollas have been 2 door coupes with rear wheel drive. 'Course the last one I bought was in 1981. The 71 had 12" tires! Good cars even then.
