I think it's a pretty decent buy for a V6 sedan under 27k.

Hopefully the reliability lives up to Toyota name, I plan to keep it 5 years+.

What color and trim level?

Good luck with it. I'm keeping mine until the doors/wheels fall off, which is probably going to be well over a decade since I also have a company vehicle for work.

Midnighblack, XLE(base model, but plenty of options),

I'll keep mine until the repair cost becomes significant.

The XLE is a pretty loaded vehicle for a "base model" car. My father has one. It has all the important stuff.

I bought my XLE Premium used at a non-Toyota dealer and they only had it listed as an XLE. I had no idea either, I just liked the car.

They were unaware it had NAV and remote start, which I discovered when I got it home. Then I found out it was an XLE Premium when I took it to the Toyota dealer for service the first time. They showed me the differences.

The feature I like about XLE premium is blind spot monitor, but I can be fine without it.

Personally, the differences between XLE and XLE premium cannot justify the extra cost.

I agree. My '14 doesn't have BSM. Back then the differences were more subtle.

One of our 4 sons has a 2003 Avalon that has been a dream to own. Just gas, drive and regular service since new.
I admire it to the point that if I need a car soon it will be an Avalon.

That's part of the reason I bought mine. A few years ago when I visited my parents out-of-state, my father ended up getting into an accident in his truck. He called me because I was in town, I had to drive my mother over to the accident scene and then to the hospital in their Avalon. I was amazed at how nice it was, so it went on my radar when I was car shopping the following year.

The Avalon is one of the best keep secrets in the world of automobiles. They're an absolute steal compared to what else you can get for the same price.
