As someone who will need to purchase an older (cheaper) used car in the next few months (with probably close to or exceeding 100k miles) how do these two stand up. I've seen some raving reviews online about them running 350k miles or more and how much people enjoyed them.

xB xB xB! The 2nd gen (2009+) has incredible crash test ratings when compared with others in its class and it has a Camry engine. I was just rear-ended and the insurance company totaled mine, after lots of research and analysis, I'm getting another one. FYI: Craigs List is no longer the best place to locate a used car. Facebook Marketplace has a much bigger selection and Carfax.com has good listings.

Did you end up getting an xB? If so, I just found out there's a recall on the engine for the pistons. Toyota will cover the repair for you under specific guidelines, here's a forum that gives you an overview:
