I read a lot about Corolla lasting a long time, and it has the best maintenance cost.
However 2002 is 17 years old. Would they still worth it for $1500?
One 2002 Corolla might be worth more than that, and another one might be worth a hundred bucks. All depends on condition and mileage. $1500 doesn't get you much, if it runs, that is usually a starting point.
I owned two Corollas when I drove 100,000 miles a year for business. Could not kill them. I would trade in every two years, and they were still running and looking great.
Nowadays the scrap metal price of a car is close to $1K, so wouldn't expect much for $1500 but you can't probably loose much.
How many miles on the car? How was it maintained?
A well maintained Taurus will still be more reliable than an abused Corolla.
I recently looked at a 2002 BMW 330 convertible with an asking price of $2000. It ran/drove fine, cold AC but the convertible top was broken (wouldn't go down). It was a really nice car (150K miles) for the money.
Impossible to say. It depends on overall condition, mileage (city to hwy ratio), number of drivers, maintenance record, # of insurance claims etc.
A well maintained Corolla life expectancy could be between 200,000 and 300,000 miles.
Get it checked at independent garage before you decide to buy.

People in that price range rarely look at luxury cars, so a similar Camry or Corolla would probably sell for more. Part of it is probably because they don't want to deal with the higher repair bills (whether real or perceived).
