And for a $100 in 2 simple modifications, a 14 yr old Cummins 12v can put more power down than any of them!
that's true but right now only the 6.7 liter Cummins meets 2010's tight emission standards and toyota just used that motor in the concept. who knows what production numbers will be like but they should be close to the others if they want to compete in the N/A market if not they already lost.

Why are they skipping the 3/4 ton market? That is a huge segment!
now the question is would you consider looking at or buying a toyota truck with a Caterpillar diesel under the hood and a eaton HD tranny to back it up?
I heard that Cat was abandoning the on-road diesel market.
One thing is sure, you cannot order a new Cat-powered school bus. Which is a shame because we've gotten great service from our fleet of about 300 Thomas Built buses with the 3126 Cat (I-6).
Hino makes a good engine. I know a guy that has a pair of them in his charter fishing boat. Diesels in boats catch hell....they're running up hill ALL the time. If a diesel holds up in the marine environment, they're good engines. Lots of Cummins and Cats in boats too. But if they ever put a powerstroke in a boat....you better bring paddles!
I believe they feel they have better things to do than make neutered engines that have to meet EPA emissions requirements these days. If they're paying the bills doing what they are doing, good for them.
I believe the 3208s in one of the other crewboats I worked on when I was working offshore did do a pretty solid job, though.
Besides, an 8-0L Hino I6 should have PLENTY of room for all that aftermarket tweaking...
It would be a HI-LO engine, toyota owns them. That dually helps the ugly looks of toyota trucks, but it's still butt ugly. And that is one lousy laidout dash! Spend a few weeks in one and it doesn't get any better!!! Been there, done that in a toyota 1/2 ton pos.
People honestly think that looks good? Thats awful looking! Same goes for the standard interior... Ill never understand that funky dash, thats hideous! I admit the front looks ok, but that rear is awful. The rear fenders look like an afterthought, and the taillights just shouldnt wrap around the bed like that, that is stupid looking. I do admit it looks better than the rear end they put on the stepside Tundra... looked like a wannabe PT Cruiser rear on that thing. lol
