p.s. I have always been of the opinion that there are many cars that are the same pricer and often cheaper than many luxury brands that actually give you better handling, power, and amenities...in many cases, reliability, too.

First off, the G37 is priced well above the IS 250.

Second, Drover is not a luxury car buyer. The end.

You can always find something...more power, more room, whatever.

But the fact remains that it's an Altima / Accord / Legacy / whichever, and not a Lexus or a BMW. And there is nothing like a Lexus or BMW.

I've driven Beemers from the 3 series all the way to the M6...there's not much special about BMW that you can't find in some other car (at usually a better price).

Are you really a car salesman? $1,000 is not a big price difference.

Good luck finding a G37 in that price range.

They will all start around $37K or so, more for the coupe.

And even then, still back to the same issue with the BMW. Harsher ride, much noisier, etc.

What you people fail to realize is that, for a vast majority of people, ride and luxury are vastly more important than power. That's why they build about 80% 250, and 20% 350.

The base MSRP difference is $1,900. In this price range, that doesn't strike me as "well above."

Attacking the messenger does not make the message any more or any less valid.

BMW offers refinement at the margins that competitors haven't been able to match, at least in the 3-series and perhaps the 5-series market segment. If you're not so finicky that those margins don't matter to you, then yeah, some of its competitors start to look pretty attractive by comparison.

I don't think you can actually get the G37 at the IS250 price in real life. My PA just bought a fully loaded IS250 (brand new) minus the nav for $30k.

The IS350 is fast and luxurious. It is hardly substandard in any way. It is probably more reliable than German cars in the same class.

The IS is a good choice for someone who values touring quality more than pure sport.

Really? I had no idea....
