I have a pipe dream of moving to Seattle. I am terrified of flying, so if I do go up there I will be driving. From what I hear, it takes about a day or two to drive up there from Los Angeles. I decided that I do not want to simply zip up there - I want to take my time, stop in various places. I haven't been more than a few miles from home in many years - the last time was when I was very young, and my memory is very foggy.

The I-5 would take me through Sacramento and Portland, as well as some other cities and towns. I don't want to just take that direct path up there. Any suggestions, for places to go that might be off from the I-5? Any places of interest in the cities and towns I'd be passing through?
