I totally agree with Charles, We are also a family of 6. Me and my husband and four children. Unfortunately, most hotels only allow 4 to a room. Why is that fair to us?? Of course I am going to have my 4 children stay in the same room with me. And I DO NOT think we should have to pay extra for Children.

Of course. When my wife and I are traveling together, what logical justification can anyone have for requiring me to pay more for the room than if I just occupy it myself? If they give me a room with two beds, we only use one of them.

I also get the AARP discount using that phony come-on card they send me to try to get me to enroll. I bet some people think that is unethical too.

Unfortunately, down here in the So. most hotels/motels advertise on their outside signs $39.99 per person occupancy. I agree that this is not fair, (we live in a college town) but they say it is business.

I've never seen that. But it usually says 39.99 single, and they charge more for double.

Typically, after advertising 39.99 single Sun-Thu, if there are two of you it goes up to 49.99 and if it happens to be a weekend, 59.99, state sales tax of 8% plus local occupancy tax, these days often around another 10 or 12%, making 20% tax, now up to $72, for a room advertised for a price "in the 30s". And I'm supposed to play fair with them? Charging extra for a second person sounds too much like "just pay separate shipping and handling".

I guess I'm unethical. Whether I pay for all occupants or "sneak" others in depends on how many beds in the room (ie how many it legally sleeps) and what kind, if any, breakfast is included.

If I'm quoted a single rate and the room sleeps four and the breakfast is toast and cereal, then I won't pay for the extra person because the "extra" guest certainly will not cost housekeeping any more than just one person (how much soap and TP does a person use?) nor will it cost hospitality any more (a slice of bread and bowl of dry cereal certainly is pennies per person if that).

If it's a hotel with a lot of amenities and a great complimentary breakfast, then that's a different story and I will pay for the "extra" person.

If a room slept only two, would I sneak in a third or fourth? Probably not.

When I was in Germany for a job, my sister and her friend came to visit me, and I let them stay in my hotel room for a week. I don't know if the maid or hotel staff knew about it, they might have. On the day of my sister and friend's arrival, I just asked the front desk for another key. They gave me one, but I had to tell them I left my key at my job.

You never would get caught. Unless you have a big party or something. Otherwise they have no reason to say anything or care.

Would I? GOD, NO!

A single bathroom won't dish out 8 showers, so obviously the place probably smells like a zoo anyway, especially after being hit by 1 or 2 steaming showers, then a couple of blown colons.

Ethics and legality aside, it's nasty. I'm consistently amazed at how some people live. For whatever reason, I'm assuming that we're not talking about a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite at the Venetian.
