I was in Shanghai many years ago before it became such a modern city with all of the futuristic skyscrapers. I really want to go back again. All of China has been transformed in recent years, particularly the big cities, as they've modernized and moved into the 21st century. I found the people to be very friendly and open to westerners although there were few tourists when I was there. I know it's high on my priority list and I think it would be a visit you wouldn't forget.

I visited Shanghai in 2011. It is definitely a great place to visit. The highlights of my trip there were Bund Promenade, seeing a Jazz concert of Chinese musicians above the age 70 at the Peace Hotel, a tour and the visit to the former Jewish Quarter, walking around the French Concession area and visiting Sun Yat-Sen's (the first president of the Republic of China) Shanghai home (in the French Concession area).

This is from 2007? I've been to Shanghai twice. The OP is probably long gone but there are plenty of threads in the Asia forum about Shanghai. I probably have some threads about it somewhere. The regional international forums are really a much more useful forum for travelers then here unfortunetly (this is slowly being relegated to "how do I travel from Toledo to Boston" type threads).
