Do Y'all think the Tar Balls will make their way to Daytona Beach by September 12th? I'd like to at least be able to get into the ocean while I'm on Vacation and not be covered in sludge.

If the leaks continues as it has (no reason to think it will stop anytime soon) the slick continues to spread in a sort of growing spiral and continues to move along the Florida panhandle and will begin to show up further south along the Florida Gulf Coast.

Once it hits the Keys and the Gulf Stream it will pick up speed and quickly move up the East Florida Coast by late summer and eventually up past Cape Hatteras before heading out into the Atlantic. It could eventually hit Europe.

This is not an exact science.

We can look at the trajectory models, but we all need to remember that they are merely models, not firm predictions. September is still pretty far away.

This is an up-to-date site, with maps:

I'd say that by September, you'd be safe for Daytona, St Augustine, and the upper east (Atlantic) coast of FLA. It's the Gulf Coast that worries me (I live in Tampa). So far, we haven't been affected.

What about Georgia beaches - aren't they worthy?
