I'm moving from Las Vegas back to my hometown of Pittsburgh in about 3 weeks. I have been looking at either taking I-70 or I-40. Google Maps and my GPS are telling me that I-70 will be the best route but I have seen several posts throughout the Internet saying that I-40 is the best route. I will be driving a 16' Penske truck and will have somone driving my car as well. Just wondering what the easiest and fastest route would be. I'm not looking for sightseeing - just getting there. Thanks in advance for any responses.

if you take the 70, you will cross the Rockies, (quite a climb) I-40 is a primary truck route (lotsa semis). The fastest would be across the 70. This time of year tornado alley (I-40) can be quite active.

If you take the 40 and go thru the checkpoint at Hoover Dam, be sure they can see the front of the box with the door opened.....or you will be unloading you truck...might be better to route thru Laughlin.

I travel the East/West corridors(I-10,20,40,70 and 90) about 8 times a year....and honestly, it's 6's.....good luck !

Why would you not tow your vehicle (and possible mechanical) and save fuel expenses....just a thought

i do the routes to. From pittsburg, I would go I-70 into St. Louis down I-44 to I-40. The worst part of the trip is I-44, a horrible interstate. Also I-44 is a toll in OK. And I would check the weather too you dont want to be on the west side of OK city in a bad storm. Go over the damn isnt a big deal anymore anyways.
