That there is life outside the circle that you keep daily. That it is a big big world that I want to see. I cant wait to retire and just travel.

The abundance of good stuff we have in the US. And that's just the conveniences. I believe one reason amerikans get so much criticism from europeans is that so many people 'over there' realize that they'll never get to touch anything like what we take for granted, even in our sleep. Excepting maybe 'Disneyplace' and I've never been to one of those.

I have learned that people are people all over the world. It has broadened my horizons and taught me that one hears in the news about different cultures is not always accurate without actually visiting/living among people in other countries. It has taught me to appreciate my own culture as well as others.

That contrary to what many people believe, Canadians and Americans share far more similarities than differences, and the culture of the two countries is almost exactly the same with very slight regional differences. I have also learned that the Cuban people are not that bad off at all, and the American Embargo is doing far worse damage to the Cuban people than the Castro government.

International travel has taught me over the years to have a broader perspective on the world. To be less ethnocentric or nationalistic. I see the world's problems and ills in a larger context outside of North America (btw, I'm Canadian.)

It's also made me very grateful for what we have.
