Feds admit storing checkpoint body scan images | Privacy Inc. - CNET News

" The U.S. Marshals Service admitted this week that it had surreptitiously saved tens of thousands of images..."

I wonder how many of them were of young girls and boys. I guess they'll be showing up on the internet in 3... 2... 1...

I will opt for the wand or patdown everytime.

Honestly, if you have some sort of fetish and get turned on looking at x-ray images of random people's bodies, I truly feel sorry for you. While I personally hate these scans, only because when I travel alone I do not want my laptop/purse to be unattended for that long at the end of the x-ray machine, I have no other issues with it. You're really not seeing much more of me than you would at the beach, in a tiny bikini.

I've got no issues with it, given a choice I'd take the body image scanner just for the novelty value.

I also can't imagine someone purposely attempting to get a job viewing these to get their kicks, look around next time boarding a plane the vast majority of images would be horrible even for people that seem just average looking with clothes on. In fact the people in charge of viewing 'em should probably get hazardous duty pay, access to both free counseling, and six vouchers for alcoholic beverages at the airport bar after each shift.

We also opt for the pat down and wand.

Just don't like the idea of some guy a block away or on the other side of the building seeing my teenage daughter.

I heard on the radio this morning that they started using these at IAH today. The congreswoman who was talking about it said you could opt for a "patdown, an intense patdown, instad. It will be very through since people opting for the patdown are more likely to be the ones trying to conceal something". So, it looks like long lines and taking our shoes off won't be the worst part of the airport experience anymore. Now its a choice of getting virtual strip searched or groped.

[Edit]. Also, the congresswoman said that the machines won't keep or transmit the images since that function will be turned off after testing the instruments. Yeah, sure. We've heard that one before. Like a perv wouldn't know which button to push to re-enable that feature.
