What do you consider cheap, moderate and expensive when it comes to a vacation budget (camping, hotel)

Too subjective, you dont talk about how long the vacation is. How far the destination is from you. You could have a dirt cheap vacation to Austraila but the flight alone is going to set you back $1500.
I recently got back from Jamaica, got a week in our hotel, round trip airfair, shuttle both ways and free breakfast for $550 plus maybe a buck buck fifty or so in taxes. That was a great deal.
Thiss weekend I'm going to Mackinac Island for a wedding. $340 a night for a hotel room that has horrible reviews and no air conditioning. My gf is dragging me to her friends wedding. Expensive and not worth it.
Fifteen years ago, My wife and I went around the world on $8,000. We were gone for nine months. I considered that moderate, since we dawdled for a few weeks in some fairly expensive countries, which we wouldn't have done if we were sticking to a tight budget. Also, we never used youth hostels, we only stayed in regular hotels of the local travelers variety, and we ate sit-down meals every day of the local cuisine. And we paid transportation fares, never tried to hitch. We were in our 50s, so really roughing it would have been problematic. The entire itinerary was from Korea to Nepal, but the plane ticket was around the world.
When we spent two years in South America, we considered $10 a day between us to be doable, but we actually came out at around $14 a day, which I also consider moderate.
Traveling in the US, we sleep in the mini-van, rarely paying for a site, and do all our cooking from scratch on a camp stove. So the only expense is the price of gas and groceries. Probably a motel once a week, for a proper wash-up or if we hit bad weather, but only if we can find one for less than $40, which we usually can.

$550 for a week in Jamaica with airfare and hotel? That's an astonishing deal...where are you flying from? One would spend way more than that just going to Yosemite or Sequoia from Los Angeles for just 3 or 4 days.

I don't think it's subject if you look at it as "what is my budget?" - if flying to Australia is not in some people's budget then they would consider it expensive. If going on vacation for more than a week is not in their budget then they would consider it expensive.

That's cheap all right...pleasant ? that's another matter. Not my cup of tea vavationing "on the rough" like that , anyway, and I'm far from being a luxury buff!
