I have a hard enough time traveling with close friends who share my same opinions.. to travel with a friend who is the opposite of me would be miserable for the both of us!

Default Need to be Realistic

I certainly would be in trouble if I had travel with friends then wanted to go to these high cost places your talking about on my own expense to afford. The only thing I can do is try to make them a deal. Please understand I have only so much money. I will put this much towards the hotel this much towards the eating will you help pay the rest? Itís all I can do. Iím not going to get broke because they want to. These are tourist traps but people like me and you outcast are the city down to Earth reasonable kind of thinking and planning that is realistic.

OP, I have to agree with the majority here in saying "it can't be done". If you are traveling with at least 2 rich guys who are trying to one-up each other, unless you have some specific deal up front that you are not going to play the game, it's going to be expensive.

The only way a poor boy can hang with the rich kids like this is to go along as a paid guide. I could imagine setting myself up with for example a group of Ferrari owners and show them some of the local backroads, provide at least some mechanical help (would be good to bring along a card-carrying Ferrari tech, but at the same time they require spark, fuel, and compression to run just like a VW...). Of course you can only do the paid guide thing if you have some expertise to offer, and that probably would not work out with relatives or close friends anyway.
