By the way, the Vanderbilt YMCA in Manhattan referenced above is a budget accommodation for the area is currently selling rooms for $96-204 per night.

Door County is touristland in Wisconsin, so $79 is cheap. Most midrange hotels are around that price, even in rural areas. Anything lower than that and you're running the risk of a crap hole (I've stayed at plenty of those also.
