It is unique to a location, the restricted area of its habitat and distribution, and full credit goes to a poster who narrows down that location (as is germane to this thread), to a region within a country, whether or not the bird is named. It is more than just a bird, there is a significance to it. Not one of earthshaking import, but one of irony. You might have seen a news report relating to this bird, which centered on more than just the bird itself. It's not a "one-of" bird, it has a fairly vigorous population, listed as "vulnerable", not endangered, yet (like most bird species) limited to a fairly restricted geographical range.
This picture is an interesting choice for someone who always complains that people post pictures that are too general or could be anywhere in the world.
Well, I am finding it quite the challenge, and being hampered by the SOPA blackouts.
The markings on this critter are fascinating, and identifying the thing will, no doubt bring you to the location.
Looks like a thrush, or Robin, but I have had no luck getting closer than that.
Yes, the SOPA blackout is hampering us today. As a hint, there is a useful Phoebe connection, although they are not anthropologically related to the Phoebe genus of birds.
Since only English Wiki is shut down, I was able to find a picture and description of this bird in French, at fr.wikipedia.org but that is probably not overly helpful to you.
One or our regulars has gotten it. I will leave it for the solution to be supplied.
Oh, hell here's another hint. A well-known American birdwatcher held the record for the most birds seen in a lifetime. When this newly discovered species was reported and described, she went to see it. It was the last bird she ever saw, and died in a car crash on her way back to her hotel.
