Inside the rock, of course.

A group of Utopians started to hollow out the rock to make a church.
They didn't get very far.

For real, or are you just shinin' me?

Of course, I guess if that's really so, they had a good role model right up the road at Hole N' The Rock. It's worth a stop to see that 5000 square foot home chiseled into solid rock. It's a tourist trap now.

We drove by there on the way south, and planned to stop on the way home. When we got there, it was closed.
Next time, I reckon.

As for Church rock, See Here

That was my first time down that way. (went to see granddaughter receive her associate degree from the community college in Blanding.)
In my truck driver life, I ran I-70 a lot, and remember the 191 exit saying "Moab" and "No services for 100 miles"
Apparently over the last thirty years, they been building up around there.

So back to the topic at hand.
I remembered seeing that building, but it took me a while to find it.
I don't have any pics to post, so I am going to abstain from answering the question.
If anyone else is looking, I can offer a clue.
it is in a town that is named for a capitol city, and is significant in the history of a major commercial product that is quite popular, internationally.

During my truck driving days, that was my preferred route between Dallas and Portland, OR in the winter time because I could usually avoid winter weather than way until Soldiers Summit and because the wind doesn't blow there like it does in Wyoming. And, it was just a nice change of pace to get off on a "back road" every now and then.

I would avoid I-70 across CO and UT like the plague, unless I just HAD to go that way.
