After 16 days at sea without anything on the horizon: "It's land! I saw land!" Then jumping up and down, "I saw land! Land! Land! Land!"

Well my first thoughts upon landing are where is the baggage carousel, then how do i get a taxi, then where's the hotel. After that I peruse my surroundings and thank God I arrived safe and sound. All places new to me are beautiful, whether it's sunny, raining, snowing or what. It's a life experience.

Interesting side topic. I'd vote LaGuardia.

Flying from SanDiego to Manchester NH... coming in low over those gorgeous green forests and fields! Stepped out of the terminal to crisp, sparkling, fragrant autumn air! Watched the sun set from the balcony at my motel and around midnight was awakened to a terrific T-storm! Stood in the doorway of my room and watched the rain and listened to the thunder grumble and fuss...

Ahhhh New England......pure heaven!!

We once had long distance bus drop us off in small town in Southern Morocco a couple hours before sunrise.

There was only one other person who got off and they were met by a what I assume to be a guide they'd arranged so were whisked away in a car and we were left standing there in the dark wondering what to do next. We ended up just wandering around town with our backpacks and finally ended up sitting in front of a mosque at edge of Sahara desert shivering until sunup and we could go find a guest house.

Unlike most of Northern areas where could get by in broken French that place was bonus challenge as many only spoke Berber.

Not an airport. Background: I grew up in Chicago, which has to be among the flattest places in the world. We were so desperate for some geography that we used to name the highway overpasses "This Hill" and "That Hill".

So then I go driving across the US to California, driving my b-i-l's beetle. Well after dark one night, we stopped at a motel just inside Colorado. Next morning, he knocks on my door and says, "Come outside and look up ... "

OMG ... MOUNTAINS!!!! All around!!! They were spectacular!!!

After living in California for 30 years, I still get a lift in mood just by going outside and looking at the hills and valleys ... and distant mountains. :-D

Landing at the old Kai-Tak airport in Hong Kong: "Holy #!@&*, we're going to hit those high-rise buildings!"

Landing at JFK: "Jeez, this place is kinda of a dump. This is New York's main airport?!"

Landing at Kathmandu: "WOW!"

My first thought when I arrived in Orlando was that the airport baggage carousel seemed rather small for the type of crowds expected during Spring Break. I was also hit by how spread out everything was and how Disney World seemed like its own city (I'm used to Disneyland here in CA).
