My friend is coming to see me soon and hes saving up. How much would gas cost for a round trip and how much would it cost for 3 days at a motel?

FL - NC = X miles
Gas = Y / Gal
MPG of Car = z

X / Z = No Of Gall of gas

Z * y = Cost of Gas +

Motel range from 60-100 a night + food stops

Do the math above

What does he drive? And from where in Florida to where in North Carolina are you driving? From Jacksonville to Wilmington is 433 miles (a comfortable day's drive) while it is 1,098 miles from Key West to Elizabeth.

Jacksonville or Miami- BIG difference.

Your friend should go to Mapquest and put in driving directions. There is a GAS ESTIMATOR that will give an estimation of fuel ....have to enter how many mph the car gets and how much gas is.

Times that by TWO- coming and going.

Next, you should check out your hotels near you to give them that information. Only you can know how much hotels are near you.

Google Maps has 819 miles from Southern Miami-Dade County to Raleigh, NC. At 26 mpg that's 31.5 gal one way. Assume $2.80 per gallon for premium unleaded and that's $88.20 -- again, one way. I have no idea how much a hotel would cost so you will have to estimate that yourself.

We make the trip from Orlando to Ft Bragg(Fayetteville, NC) quite often.
It takes us 8 1/2 hours and we have to stop for gas once and then again when we get there. Turn around is the same.
When we budget for gas we usually just say 5 tanks and around $35.00 per tank that's about $175.00. (Yes we realize that's a generous budget but we'd rather guess high than low)
Hotel rooms? You're on your own. Again it depends on where in Florida you are staying.
