Hi. Recently I started to fly after not having been on a plane since 1978. I've flown 3 times from 9/08 to 9/09 but it will be 15 months since i last flew
I'm tense about it again and there has been a nasty bug going around. I always seem to get this bug right between Christmas and New Years. It only lasts 12-15 hours and seems like a mini- flu. I get bad nausea (most of the time no getting sick in the bathroom luckily), headache, body ache, sore throat, low grade fever. I sleep it off and after 12-15 hours it's gone
My worst fear is getting this bug on my flight day the 28th.
if this does happen what is the best thing i can do on the plane? i absolutely dread this thought because i already will have an upset stomach on the flight both from fear and the occasional motion sickness (otherwise i'm ok with flying). i take a natural airsickness preparation which works fairly well
i've never taken emetrol and i am a new medication- controlled diabetic. i would like to take emetrol but i've read diabetics shouldn't take it or should talk to their doctors about it
my bugs are all short lived but when they start i feel like i'm gonna die. it even gets hard to sit still at home
because my throat keeps getting sore and i get a headache (tho this can be caused by the dryness by my apartment window and the dryness of the heat) and 2 co-workers got ill all last week, one with bronchitis, the other with the flu
I had the flu shot but i still dread this because i won't have the luxury of being in my apartment sleeping if i get it
I can't help but wonder why you would make your plans for the precise time you always fall ill. Is if for a wedding or something that you absolutely had to be there for on that date? This seems to be causing you alot of anxiety that maybe could have been prevented by going, say mid January.
You are making yourself sick with worry for several days over a flight that will last maybe 3 hours? If you're sick, so be it. You certainly won't be the first person to vomit on an airplane. I haven't seen an airsick bag on a domestic flight in a long time. They used to be standard items in the seat back pocket. If you are really worried about nausea, tuck a small opaque plastic bag in your carryon. I think the FA's will give you one if you ask, but you don't want to have to worry if you can't get their attention.
But, please, if you are truly ill, not just a nervous flyer, think of your fellow passengers. Trip insurance is a wonderful thing! Nobody wants to sit next to somebody with the flu.
just that i haven't flown in 15 months so i'm out of the loop
flying is pretty standard and doesnt really change, go in go through security, sit down, sleep/read/look out window, get off the flight and youre there.
being sick is being sick whether you're on an airplane or driving in your car.. theres really nothing to be so worked up about
I'm on vacation starting today and i fly to Atl Tuesday. forecast for tuesday in NY is windy. Does this mean a delayed takeoff? I know wind turbulence doesn't mean much when it comes to flying, I just don't want those pilots to put too much pressure on those rudders and cause another American Airlines Flight 587...

If wind was a serious problem there would be more delays every day than you can imagine. Chill, its only a flight, millions of people fly daily.
