Just for clarification, are you talking backpacking as in hiking and camping in the backcountry? Or the backpacking travel in terms of carrying light baggage, traveling by rail, and staying at hostels?

Many would list the US as we do not offer a hostel on every corner.

I don't agree, we might not have hostels but we do have a lot of lower budget hotels that people can stay in. There are many options for people who want to get by cheaply, we don't only cater to high income.
