Default Day Trips

What is your favorite day trip?

It's your day off and the weather is lovely, so you decide to hop in the car or take a bus or train to a nearby destination and you know you'll be back in your bed by midnight.

I'll go first: I live in Philadelphia, so a perfect day trip for me is ...

1. A drive through the countryside in nearby Bucks County. Sample some wine at a local vineyard. Enjoy the bucolic landscape of farms, meadows, forests and streams. Check out an art gallery in New Hope or have lunch in a charming restaurant in Doylestown. Perhaps do a little shopping at Peddler's Village in Lahaska.

2. Visit historic Cape May, New Jersey. Admire the ornate Victorian mansions that are mostly bed-n-breakfasts now. Spend a little time on the beach. Enjoy a good meal. Maybe drive up the road to Atlantic City for a little gambling or a show.

3. Explore the back roads of Lancaster County. See the Amish in their horse-and-buggies. Enjoy the countryside with all the well tended farms and barns with "hex" signs on them. Have a 'Pennsylvania Dutch' style meal with seven sweets and seven sours; not forgetting the shoo-fly pie for dessert.

Now it's your turn ....

My favorite day trip is to Sedona/Flagstaff, AZ. 1 1/2 hours away and 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix's brutal summers

I live in Maine, a great day trip for me is going to Boothbay Harbor - either by land or boat. I enjoy walking around the waterfront and taking in a lovely view or 2, then we have lunch overlooking the harbor. There are several shops to browse in with lots of fun things to buy There are so many other lovely waterfront towns that a awesome day trips but this is my favorite !!

I live in San Diego, one of the most beautiful cities in the country. We go to Orange county a lot for the day (Laguna, Newport, Dana Point, Balboa Island, etc.) as well as LA when we have visitors. In the winter months, if we want snow, Laguna Mountain can usually accommodate and that's just 45 minutes from warm, sunny San Diego.

But I must say, I really have no reason to get in the car and leave my own city. I love living here and am surrounded by natural beauty no matter where I look. Here are some pictures of what our days consist of, this is our background every single day!! I took these this week, as I play tourist in my own town.

Clark Park, we moved here from NJ 2 years ago and did all the trips you mentioned! I used to take my nephew to Lancaster County every year, since Thomas the Tank Engine would come to Strasburg every year and he was a huge fan when he was little! I gotta say, I'd love some shoo-fly pie right about now as well as a good Philly cheesesteak!

Default A day trip from New York City - Connecticut

Years ago I picked up my friend Barbara, who lives in Manhattan and doesn't have a car, and we spent a lovely day driving up the western edge of Connecticut along the Housatonic River to places like Kent and Cornwall Bridge and West Cornwall where there was a charming historic covered bridge. I remember there was an outstanding restaurant by the bridge in an old wooden house where we had a memorable lunch. New England at it's best!!!

I never liked CT for some reason. We tried several times when we lived in North Jersey, but we found ourselves going to Manhattan instead all the time since it was just 10 minutes away! That's about the only thing I miss from the East coast! Since Jersey is so small, it was easy to do day trips to the Poconos, down the shore, rafting on the Delaware, Philly for the day, hiking the Appalachian...there is so much to do in that area!

Hehe, I actually live in Atlantic County...when not at college.

The best day trip I ever went on was to Boston. Short day trip, but it was well worth it! Day trips to Philly and NYC are also great.
