I would recommend most of all Prague, Czech Republic ... it has such an "Old World" European ambiance ... winding cobblestone alleys, hidden courtyards and grand squares, gorgeous churches, historic neighborhoods, etc.

Other good choices would be Bruges, Belgium; Berlin, Germany; Copenhagen, Denmark; Stockholm, Sweden; Istanbul, Turkey ...

Isn't Czech wonderful! I live about 2 hours from Prague and when I don't have anything to do for a day/weekend, I pop over.

All of Czech is divine!
Czesky Budvar, home of the original Budweiser;
Czesky Kromlov, about 10 miles from Budvar and a wonderful walled city;
Olomouc has 7 fountains and is a World Heritage Site;
Liberec by the mountains separating Poland and Czech; Dresden is very close by.

I see you've been to Florence.
How about Croatia? Greece? Istanbul?

I see you haven't been to the Netherlands or Belgium.
Belgium is one of the best kept secrets in Europe.
The Netherlands is much more than A'dam.

Enjoy.

Hello, I would kindly suggest starting a new thread. Look up the definition of "thread hijacking", google it.

I'd second Prague...Maybe the best preserved historic core of any large city in Europe...Fun town too, and for all the tourists it's still got a great local scene.

Also, I'd reccomend a lot of the Eastern European cities...If you want something different the Balkan region is a fascinating mix. Croatia is beautiful, Dubrovnik is one of the most specatacular small cities on the coast and Split is interesting too--the main core of the city is built around an ancient Roman palace. If you're feeling adventurous, Sarajevo is a city that's just getting back on it's feet, but is an interesting mix of Turkish, Slavic, and Austrian cultures.. Budapest and Krakow are both great cities that are really hitting their stride in the last ten years.
