Agreed, I didn't count business travel--even if I got to see friends or family while I was away--or weekend trips as vacation.

Every year at least one week away, usually fairly far from home if not out of country. Last trip was in early May of this year. On top of that, I do multiple weekend or long weekend trips every year. Vacations keep me sane!

We have a neurotic dog that has a complete breakdown every time we leave her in a kennel so that limits how long we can go away. Last year we attended a family graduation and spent two nights at a bed and breakfast/cabin that we've been to before. I really enjoyed that and it was peaceful and relaxing. The dog came along because the kennel owner had to leave and nobody was there. That cost us an extra $50 that I gave the BB owners which was okay with them but having the dog along was a pain. She likes to bite strangers and is very territorial.
Right now I'm taking a weeks vacation and we're having the bathroom remodeled. I'm going stir crazy sitting around the house. Normally we'd take a day trip to Atlantic City, maybe we can if they get done in time.

Just got back from one last week. Going away next week again. We try to get away at least once a month.

I've only been out of the country once & that was back in 2006. I consider that a real vacation. I go up north like 4 times a year & I'm going to Key West in November for four nights but that is about it. How sad is that? I need more stamps in my passport.

It depends on what you call a "vacation".

If you mean any sort of leisure travel, than almost the entire month of March in Mexico. Before that (excluding day trips), than Spain and Morocco in May 2008.

If you mean a what I imagine when you say "vacation" - a comfortable holiday somewhere (usually at a beach) - than probably South Dakota in August 2005.

A few months ago to Atlantic City. Do you count any nonbusiness trip over 100 miles away a vacation? Then I went on one last year for a family member's funeral, plus a few longer ones.

You can do a 200 mile r/t as a day trip, so no, that's not a vacation to me. Neither is spending a couple days visiting relatives. In fact often you need a vacation after that.

To me a vacation is spending three or more days away in a relaxing or energizing locale doing things outside the scope of your normal routine. Sleeping in, walking on the beach, investigating a new city, visiting historical sites, etc.

I feel the need for a vacation about every 3 months. Unfortunately, I can't get off work or have enough money for that...
Usually we do one 7-10 day trip a year, plus a few long weekends within driving distance. This was the year of "family vacations"- mine to Vieques,PR in February, and his side to Cape San Blas, FL in May. Next year we plan to hike Grand Canyon in May and a family wedding that we will extend to a vacation in Massachusetts in August. After that, probably one long trip a year.....
