My kid in Paris has *FIVE WEEKS* paid vacation per year.
From LegalDiva:

In the last thread where we talked about Americans and vacation time, there were several Americans (living in the States) who came out of the woodwork to comment on how much paid vacation time they have. Some are doing very well.

In his old job, my husband used to just 'go in the hole' so to speak so that we could take larger chunks of time, and then he would make it up later. Mini-vacations are fine, but if you're paying to cross the Atlantic, it's nice to stay awhile.
With his current job, it is a completely different payment situation and they'll just have to deal with him being gone in December, but things are slow during the holidays.
I have been in my current job a little less than a year and will get no paid vacation for another year--but I work part-time, and just take unpaid leave.
Yea just to clarify, I get 20 days but the "vacation" time also includes Sick and Personal days. My past jobs only offered 2 weeks (and they would harrass me if I actually took an entire week or 2 at once). So even though 20 days (4 weeks) sounds generous, when you factor in no sick days in that tally - its not too far off the average.

And yea I agree Americans *should* get more vacation time. Europeans get some crazy vacation time..

I had dinner in Bitche, France on Wednesday; tomorrow it's off to Arlon, Belgium for chocolates; Sedan to photo my sedan under the sign; Verdun and back here where I'm visiting for a week.

13 months ago when my wife and I spent 16 days in Alaska. I do try to take between 4 and 6 weekend trips to the mountains over the year. Its a 6+ hour drive so I can't go as often as I would like.

We try to take two a year.

Last year we took a cruise in the Western Caribbean during March, then drove around Canada in August.

This year, we went to Orlando for spring break. My wife and I went to Las Vegas in early June. And we don't know what we'll do with the kids yet for the rest of the summer.

3-day weekends are perfect for that. I combine a lot of 1/2 days with 3 day weekends to get more bang for my vacation days.

It's over three years now, we donít dare go by plane, we are too concerned that our two year old Daughter will cause trouble, and make us end up in court!

Last May. Hawaii.

Didn't go this year. Will be staying home now that we have a new baby. Until he can be a civilized traveler.

Normally we take a beach vacation every year in May.

Last year, we took 2...good thing, too...since we're homebound for a while.

It's been 5 years. Closest thing in that time was a day trip, 5 hours each way for a concert.

Why must travel be so expensive and time off work so hard to get?

I'm on one now.

Just left chilly and snowy fjords of Norway, now sweltering in Stockholm.

A week ago if you count a road trip to a place 400 miles away. But we had things that had to be done there, so maybe that doesn't count. Then it's a year.
